Defence Institute of
Advanced Technology
The Defence Institute of
Advanced Technology
(previously the Institute of
Armament Technology) is a
Deemed University in Girinagar, Pune, India. It
began as the Institute of
Armament Studies in 1952
before moving to its current
location in 1967.It is
accredited by the All India
Council of Technical
Education (AICTE) and in the
year 2000, the Institute
acquired the status of a
Deemed University. The
Institute runs eight post
graduate courses in Modeling
and Simulation, Laser and
Electro-optics, Chemical
Technology, (High Energy
Materials), Aerospace
Engineering, Air Armament
Engineering, Combat
Vehicles, and many more
short courses. A few of the
courses are open for
civilian students also. |
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Defence Institute of
Advanced Technology, (DIAT) as
it is known today, came into
being as the Institute of
Armament Studies in 1952 in the
CME campus.
In 1967, the Institute was
renamed as “Institute of
Armament Technology, (IAT)”,
which moved to its present
location at Girinagar, Pune.
From the relatively narrow scope
of Armament Studies alone in the
Fifties, the role of the
Institute was considerably
enlarged by the Defence R&D
Council in 1964 and further in
1981.
On the basis of accreditation by
the All India Council of
Technical Education (AICTE),
Pune University recognised eight
courses for the award of ME
degree in 1980. In the year
2000, the Institute acquired the
status of a Deemed University.
IAT has been renamed as DIAT
w.e.f. 1st April 2006.

POINTS
INTERACTION WITH OTHER LABS
Being a Teaching
institute DIAT has been
interacting with most of the
DRDO labs. INFO and POINTS
officers trained at DIAT
have been posted to various
DRDO labs and become
interacting nodes for DIAT.
Similarly many service
officers trained at DIAT
also join DRDO labs. Besides
this there are visits from
DIAT Department to various
DRDO labs. Some of the labs
with which DIAT interacted
in the recent past are as
follows:
